Quasar Accounting Version 1.4, has now been released, and works on Linux with support for Windows work stations. Their made for Linux point-of-sale package, Quasar Point-of-Sale interfaces to Quasar Accounting using the point-of-sale server forming Quasar Retail.

Quasar Accounting Software

Quasar is a full function, stand-alone business accounting package. You may elect to use the Quasar Accounting with the open source GNU General Public License (GPL) which is available free of charge. But to get support from our partner network you may elect to purchase the commercial license for a nominal fee. To ensure timely access to support you will need to purchase one of our support packages or from Linux Canada.

With Quasar it is extremely easy to set up remote access to multiple servers from multiple workstations. You may run Quasar on both Windows and/or Linux on the same network. For example, you can maintain a Linux server and access the data from a Windows workstation.

Quasar Retail

When you combine Quasar Accounting with the point-of-sale server and the point-of-sale client it forms Quasar Retail. Quasar Retail is not open source, however, for a fee the closed source code will be available for Resellers and customers of Quasar Retail.

Quasar Retail contains all of the features available in Quasar Accounting plus it contains the Quasar Point-of-Sale driver which allows Quasar Accounting to communicate with the Quasar Point-of-Sale application. Quasar Retail is only available with a commercial license. In a mission critical environment such as retail you will need to purchase one of the support packages for timely access to support . Resellers and customers who wish a copy of the Quasar Retail source code can obtain it by purchasing annual source code access.

Point-of-Sale

Quasar Point-of-Sale is their stand alone point-of-sale application. When they say standalone, they mean that it is a separate application that runs on a remote computer. However, the file information, must come from the Quasar Accounting server.
